The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

This went down easily in two days of enjoyably light reading. For me, the pleasure and the tension come from switching between Christopher's interpretation of events & our own as readers. We see everything through Christopher’s eyes, but we don't come to the same conclusions. In PoMo jargon, we are faced with an acute sense of difference. Coming to terms with this difference, on many levels, is the heart of the drama. As this dealing with difference is so painfully obvious an imperative for our moment in history (when isn't it?) I think it's a very good thing that this book has been such a success.

A relative of mine, GrammarBroad, gave me this book and told me about the magnificent website known as BookCrossing. Well, on the ride home from Starkville, I read the novel. I was a bit concerned with Mark Haddon's style... It was very unorthadox. Yet as I got through the pages, it struck me as funny, the main character's viewpoint at least. Christopher was a little like myself in his habits. I came to think that perhaps we all have a bit of Christopher inside of us, screaming for certain things to be in a certain order. Story short, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time was an excellent read and I now plan to leave it somewhere, for another lucky lass to find.
