Whether it's poker or trial law, wisecracking Rita Morrone plays to win, especially when she takes on the defense of the Honorable Fiske Hamilton, a prominent federal judge accused of sexual harassment. And it's no coincidence that the judge is her live-in lover's father. Then the action turns deadly, and Rita finds herself at the center of a murder case. She probes deep into the murder, uncovering a secret life and suspects in shocking places. When the killer viciously ups the ante, Rita decides to end this lethal game. She lays it all on the line for the highest stakes ever--her life.

I am constantly amazed at the generous nature of BookCrossers. Thank you so much for filling a box of my wished-for Scottoline books! I cannot express how happy I am to receive them and am looking forward to reading them from the beginning to the end of this series! I will be moving them along as quickly as possible and sharing them with BCers as well. (Hugs)

I really enjoyed this legal thriller by Scottoline! Loved the new-to-me character of Rita and the development of the case she was working on. While I don't want to give away any part of the story, I will say that each page brought a little twist and turn in the story both for the 'case' and for the character, Rita. This book encompasses a murder, romance and family trauma. What more can a reader ask for? A well written and researched story which is exactly what we get. Kudos to Scottoline.

It was an easy and quick read because I was truly enjoying each page, I had no idea that I had stayed up late to finish it. lol. Looking for the next reader now....

I never meant to keep this book so long, but you know how it is-too many good books, not enough time! If it's any consolation, my husband and I have both enjoyed this book and I've passed it on to my sister. it was a fun, easy read that kept me guessing right up until the last page.
