This has got to be one of the strangest books that I have ever read. If you are expecting a novel akin to Life of Pi you will be sorely disappointed. This is not so much a novel as a fictional autobiography. The narrator changes sex after about 100 pages in which throws you for a while until you get used to it. There are quite alot of graphic sex scenes not always needed to help the book along. I think that Martel has alot of valid points to make through this book - but I wasn't wholly involved with the story.
