With Tour in the title and Travel in the subtitle, i.e. Travels with my Elders, I chose Travel as the category, although I also considered Humour and the catch-all Nonfiction.

It was given to me, unread and unregistered, by my friend and neighbour, BookCrosser Blower, from among those passed to her by a non-BookCrossing friend. I've already smiled my way through four of the six tours so I'm pretty sure I'll return it with a recommendation that she tries it herself . . .

The premise is totally unlikely - but seems to work! Goodness knows why! A thirty-something year old goes on half a dozen persioner-special coach holidays, which are ridiculously cheap when taken off season and booked when the company are trying to fill seats close to the date. He writes of his experience and enjoyment as the youngest by decades . . .

I've never been to Italy. Otherwise, this book brought back all sorts of memories as he travelled to places I've visited myself - while always staying sober, of course!

He chose some interesting destinations: Scarborough, St Ives, Llandudno, Killarney and Pitlochry.

This is where I confess that we went to Llandudno with Shearings in 2016, even staying in the same hotel, albeit in sunny August rather than chilly March, so that section was especially familiar!

I enjoyed the author's writing style and have already downloaded A Chip Shop in Poznan: My Unlikely Year in Poland to my Kindle.

Now to see what Blower makes of it . . .

October 2021: I've now got a Kindle copy of BA's first book as well, Dear Bill Bryson: Footnotes from a Small Island in which he follows the travels BB undertook for his famous Notes from a Small Island. Looks good :-)

September 2022: I didn't report at the time but, while Chip Shop was OK, BA's first book, his attempt at a Bryson clone, didn't work for me and I had to abandon it, unfortunately.
However, his latest work, The Marmalade Diaries: The True Story of an Odd Couple, an account of spending lockdown with a larger-than-life octogenarian, 35 meets 85, is definitely his best yet! He's getting better as he goes on . . . :-)

From my friend and neighbour Nu-Knees recently delivered to my garden table.
I started to read this while in Scarborough. Ben's travels start in Scarborough so I spotted his hotel but not the pubs he visited!
Fun read with Ben enjoying the company of his elders. He listens to the stories and tales of lives well lived.
Not a travel book but an observation on life. I liked his tour with his Gran (Janet) but struggled in Pitlochry, maybe he was jet (bus) lagged.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Given to a non Bookcrossing friend.
I hope she enjoys the humour.

This book was given to me by a family member and I must admit sat on my bookshelf unread for a number of months. Having recently started to commute to work by train I have found time for the enjoyment of reading again. Loved the idea, humour and reflection in this book. A good and easy ready. Definitely on the look out for Ben Aitken’s other books,
