When this book first came out I was appalled. Who would write about children murdering each other?! Then I saw the movie and thought okay I get it, it’s more than that, it’s deeper and that is just one aspect. Then I started looking at memes and comments where people were saying how much better the book is. I almost always agree and finally broke down and got the book when our local Costco was selling the complete book set. This book was great! The writing is light which you’d expect of a YA novel, but the content and the storyline is well thought out, well written, and much deeper than you’d think. I enjoyed reading the book that I continued through the series, finally finishing all three original novels and the most recent prequel (all in a week). I absolutely recommend this book. It’s an excellent warning of what can happen in society but also as a story of a young woman’s survival and how society and adults can force a future on an unwitting child. It’s about sisterly love and a battle to survive life, government, and society while growing up in a regular way.
