When the Bolsheviks take over, Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, the hotel where he lives, as his aristocratic title goes against their socialist ideals. During his extended stay he meets, befriends and battles a variety of characters in this microcosm he is not allowed to leave.

Really enjoyed this, even more than The Rules of Civility. Deftly fashioned, clever but not overly precious writing.
