On it's way to my Secret Santa recipient.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Thank you so much for sending this. I used to read a lot of Stephen King and then had a break. Recently I read The Outsider and it made me realise I still think he's great!! Hope you had a lovely Christmas! x
I enjoyed this short story. Although in some ways similar in concept to Thinner its a very different feel. As usual it's the way he writes his characters that draws you in. Loved the ending too!
Sending this as part of the wishlist tag game.
Hope you like it!

A nice and "uplifting" book. Well written and characterised but I actually felt the end was bittersweet.

This is short story at 132 pages - certainly a lot, lot shorter than many of King's weightier tomes - but one that had me entirely engrossed, reading it in one sitting.
In short, Scott Carey is enduring a mysterious weight loss as his weight drops on a daily basis, doesn't matter how much he eats, his weight goes down. Not only that but in appearance he still seems to be the somewhat hefty bloke he's always been. Bizarre eh?
Now don't be expecting this to be a horror story although as Scott's condition is obviously out of the norm there is a supernatural/mystical feel. I felt it a little reminiscent of old folktales or fables that had a moral behind them, so I totally agree with the comment "...compelling tale about finding common ground despite differences, a magical story with deep resonance for our time"
All-in-all, I loved it, nothing else to say except...
...quotes I particularly liked:
"The past is history, the future's a mystery."
"Everyone should have this, he thought, and perhaps, at the end, everyone does. Perhaps in their time of dying, everyone rises.
