Well, I am about 1/3 of the way through this book and I have to say I'm not all that impressed so far. I had heard good things about this book so I was hoping it would be better. It isn't *awful* but I am finding it kind of uninteresting. Maybe it will get better??

I just finished reading this book and lowered my rating a bit. It was a struggle to stay interested in this one - I was so disappointed as I had heard such great things about Nick Hornby's writing.

Just received this one in the mail! Thank you very much, Jenny-Lou-Who! :) By the way, I loved "the-little-bread-crumb-guy" stationary! (His name escapes me at the moment.)

To tell you the truth, I found this novel much more disturbing than funny. One reviewer said this book had "dark humour." No kidding. In the novel, a woman is unhappy with her marriage to her angry, sarcastic husband. Suddenly, he becomes "spirited" (not in a religious sense), and in his re-birth, wants to do good. So, she must now deal with a dissolving marriage on top of her husband's new personality.
The book had its moments, and goodness knows I felt the frustration that the main character portrayed. However, the plot just went everywhere, to the point where I stopped caring whether or not the marriage worked out.
Maybe I'm comparing this book to "About a Boy", which is really funny and heartwarming. Either way, this novel just isn't Hornby at his best.
