I'd heard about the strange religion where people handled poisionous snakes and drank dangerous substances before. In fact I think it featured in a book I read but I can't remember which one. I know it wasn't this one as I definitely hadn't read this before. At first I found it slow going and wasn't sure if I would continue as, to be honest, I thought it was just going to be yet another book about teen angst. However I'm glad I stuck with it as the tale soon started to hold my interest more and I found the writing about what happened to Travis, which was definitely a pivotal event, and subsequent events in the lives of the other characters well written and dealt with in a sensitive way. Well done Mr Zentner.
