The Court of Broken Knives
8 journalers for this copy...
A small band of mercenaries crosses the desert. Their newest recruit is Marith, a beautiful boy who's obviously from a noble background, who their leader isn't sure will hack it when it comes to battle, but when they're attacked by a dragon he's the one to kill it. In Sorlost, city of the copper walls, Lord Orhan plots to kill the ever-living Emperor so he can stop the greatest Empire that ever was crumbling further into weakness. Captivating but bleak and gritty fantasy.

This looks great. I love the tree postcard too.
ETA Just realised I didn't journal this. I really found it gripping although it took me a little while to get into it. Worth persevering.

I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't really get into it. I did persevere for a while but unfortunately did not finish. As its part of a ray, its time to keep it moving and will now travel on to earthcaroleanne.

I didn't expect to like this but I did for about 50 pages after page 200. Part two was definitely the best bit and I carried on because I wanted to know how it ended. However I was skimming through part three and I don't think it was a terribly exiting ending but I can't be sure.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book is a unpredictable read. Anna Smith Spark has a captivating writing style.
There are four main characters within this swaps between their view points. However, despite the excellent writing I really didn't warm to the characters, they didn't seem to have any redeemable features. The plot was good but the characters stopped me from enjoying the book more.
I am waiting for the address of the next participant to pass it on.

Caught at the UNCON in Northampton.
As Anna Smith Spark was speaking at the convention I got her to sign it, so now wherever it travels has a little bit of her imprinted onto the pages :)
No idea if this type of novel will interest me, but willing to give it a try.
