London, 1941. Amid the falling bombs Emmeline Lake dreams of becoming a fearless Lady War Correspondent. Unfortunately, Emmy instead finds herself employed as a typist for the formidable Henrietta Bird, the renowned agony aunt at Woman’s Friend magazine. Mrs Bird refuses to read, let alone answer, letters containing any form of Unpleasantness, and definitely not those from the lovelorn, grief-stricken or morally conflicted.
But the thought of these desperate women waiting for an answer at this most desperate of times becomes impossible for Emmy to ignore. She decides she simply must help and secretly starts to write back – after all, what harm could that possibly do?

Read for my local book club. What I would call a cozy read. The characters were of a type which are easy to recognise from any number of books and films, not much depth but pleasant. Probably not a book which will stay in the memory for very long but good fun and humorous with some very touching passages. Definitely worth a read.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Travelling on today as part of Greenbadger's monthly giveaway. I hope you enjoy it.
Today I had a curious mood, not so happy, a bit restless with a broken mug, an unfinished project, guests who will come tomorrow with short notice, albeit welcomed, and, moreover, on Sunday we have the 1-year memorial for my deceased father, I can't believe it's already one year that passed.. But...the postman just rang the door and... he made my day! Beautiful colors on the cover, and I love the smell of a new book, a comfort read for the Easter holiday. Thank you, Sparkish!
I read this book during last December, it is a nice, easy read, but also it meant more to me now than a few years ago. Now we have the Covid-19 epidemy, then they had the war. London was bombed almost everyday, but people just went on with their lives, bombing became a part of the routine. The same is in our time. We acannot stay in or houses for ever, especially young people really have to go out.
