There are new dramatic changes in Calamity's life. Lost things begin to come back to her. Her father dies. She's also starting menopause. And then she finds a little child washed up on the shore, and wants to take care of him.
The struggles and drama of life is mixed with magic in this story. Calamity is not exactly a nice person, I especially hate her homophobia. However, I feel some sympathy towards her after all, she has never really had it easy. All in all, another great book by Nalo Hopkinson!
