I know many people found the writer to be humorous, but I found his tone very condescending. I’m sure the book has some great information, but I know the condescension would make me biased against it. So, after skimming and/or reading several chapters, I DNF’d the book and will not leave a rating.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
One of the starting books for the Science & Technology Bookbox!

I'm taking this book from the Science and Technology bookbox.
Later: I appreciated many of the entries here, though as a lifetime skeptic-with-scientific-turn-of-mind it was rather preaching to the choir. But some of the suggestions for trying to explain or defuse the more harmful myths and pseudoscience in an attempt to help its victims seemed potentially useful, and I did enjoy the discussion of the placebo effect, which featured many more ramifications than I'd given thought to.
Alas, some of the book was just depressing, as it described how and why bad science is so popular and so easy to spread (and hard to debunk, at least to those who've invested so much in it that they really don't want to be persuaded to change their minds). But overall I found the book quite interesting.
