Punahou Carnival white elephant tent purchase. Know this was on someone's wishlist. Short stories are not my thing. The title reminds me of a ex-co-worker's story. She was the youngest of several siblings with a wide range in ages. When some of her older sibs were young, before she was born, there was a Fourth of July party at their home. Her sister was wearing a dress with crinolines for the occasion and felt fancy. Her brother ran by with a lit sparkler and the synthetic material of her crinoline ignited, requiring an ER visit. At a later family reunion, the woman who worked with me noted to that sister, "I was always closer to (that brother) than you were," to which her sister replied, "Well, he never set you on fire." Reserved for J4shaw (tag).

Rather odd stories overall. I preferred Bender's novel, An Invisible Sign of My Own
, to this collection.
I really did enjoy the story entitled "The Healer" very much. Of the others, I'm not sure that any will stay with me.

This got added to my wishlist after reading a review from another bookcrosser years ago. I was so glad when this came last spring. I picked it up to read during my commute because short story collections lend themselves to short reading times. Overall I liked this collection, but there were some odd little stories in here. I think I will look for An Invisible Sign of My Own at the library on ReallyBookish's recommendation in their earlier journal entry.
