Happy 2018!!! New thread for a new year. This is our 8th!

☆Please feel free to start another thread when needed☆

Don't forget to keep your Wishlist up to date, also consider adding non book wishes (ie wings, bookplates) to your Wishlists to make it easier to keep the game moving.

Remember this great exchange is all made possible by Bruce & Heather!
SUPPORT THE SITE!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE - media mail within the USA is just $2.66 / $3.17 if its a larger, or hardback book.

HOW TO PLAY:
1) Make sure you have the sort options set to "Flat - Latest First" so you can be sure who is next in line to be tagged.
2) Simply check their Wishlist, and if you have a book that features there, and are happy to pay the postage to send the book to them, tag away!

- Title your post with "I tag <member name>"
- Before Tagging, please ensure your own Wishlist is up to date.
- To manage expectations, please state whether the book you are Tagging with is TBR or whether it is ready to send straight away.
- PM the BCer for their address.
- If you are open to being Tagged Forward, please state as much in your post, ie “If I’ve not been Tagged within 1/24/48/72 hours, feel free to Tag It Forward.”
Please remember the original sense of “give a book, get a book” that this game was created to function as, applies to those who don’t make mention of Tag It Forward in their post.

3) If you want/need to say something in the thread (besides tagging somebody) or if you just want to bump the thread, please title your post "still <member name> to be tagged" or something similar.

4) Rather than posting in this thread to thank people when your book arrives, please use the following Wishlist-tag THANK YOU thread instead:

Just stepping in here as I have been PMed by 2 separate BCers about the Tag It Forward act.
There is concern about recent Tag It Forwards happening when the person up to be tagged hadn't said it was ok to do so, and also an act of Tagging It Forward with a book that was on the person up to be Tagged's own Wishlist, yet they weren't themselves Tagged with it.
Now I did not create this game, but I have been asked to "do something" about it and have gievn this considerable thought over the course of today and propose the following.

****** If you are happy for your turn to be Tagged become a Tag It Forward, can you please stipulate a time period. IE "If I have not been Tagged within 48 hours please feel free to Tag It Forward".... or similar.******

My own view of the Tag It Forward option is to avoid the game stalling.
Every attempt should be made to Tag the person up next to be Tagged, but if thats not possible by those paying attention to the game at the time, then it frees up the game by Tagging It Forward.

I feel the only way to "police this" concern people have, it by putting the owness on the person up to be Tagged.

Happy for others views and guidance, but I truly hope this alleviates some people's gripes about the game, and that it can continue in the good faith it was created for....give a book, get a book.

OK! Lets play .............. maggiesma to be Tagged

I do hope this isn't a huge issue - this is supposed to be fun, after all!

I think that folks who are willing to have a tag-it-forward could certainly add a time limit - but I don't think it should be required. Some of us have enough books already that we put "tag-it-forward" in our wishlists as a permanent option, with no need for a waiting period. Sure, I like to get wishlist books, but I'm happy to have an immediate tag-it-forward as an option. (Tag-it-forward can also be used to send wish-books to people who aren't currently playing, which might help bring in new blood.)

...and also an act of Tagging It Forward with a book that was on the person up to be Tagged's own Wishlist, yet they weren't themselves Tagged with it.

That one would be a bit awkward - but I can see how it might happen, if people are relying on the global-overview's "who's wishing for this book" feature. That only searches for books matching the overview-page's title/author spelling, and may miss wishes that were generated on a different edition or with a variation in spelling (missing a "The" in the title, etc.). I may use the overview-page link to start a search, but I always edit the terms on the advanced-search page to remove leading "A"s and "The"s, and trailing ": A Novel"s, and to remove all but the author's last name.

Maybe if that happens, the person who was originally to be tagged, and who sees their wishlist book going to someone else as a tag-it-forward, could ping the tagger to let them know?

Maggiesma to be tagged!

I did not know this was an option and have relied on the "global overview wishlist search" you mentioned. I will try this out and PM you if I have questions, Gory. Thanks!

Wishes or tag-it-forward work for me!

Edited to add: FWIW, I had thought that the proposal to add a time limit to a tag-it-forward option was part of a discussion rather than a change in policy, so I didn't add a time limit to my most recent tag. Having heard that someone was upset about that, I got in touch with J4shaw and proposed a 5-minute limit for my tags. Silly, perhaps, but I really, truly don't mind being tagged forward. And as my wishlist is full of hard-to-find books, if I stated a 48-hour wait-period it's quite possible that I'd cause a 48-hour delay in the game every time I tagged somebody, and then get tagged forward anyway.

If the concern is that we should all state some kind of time limit as a reminder to everyone else as to who's allowing tag-it-forwards and under what circumstances, I'll add my five-minutes to future posts.

If the concern is that somebody wants to tag *me* and is frustrated because others tag me forward before they can get to me... that's actually kind of sweet! But in that case, you could tag someone else forward to get to me {wry grin}.

If there are other aspects that I'm missing, maybe the folks most concerned about problems with the existing tag game could start a thread specifically to discuss it - that way we can talk about it without having to save the who's-being-tagged info.

“Missing, Presumed” by Susie Steiner was wished for on 1/23/2018 by Bookstogive. It’s my current time out from renovations day read, so should be with you in the next week or so.

Sorry Spatial, but I haven't noted that I am open to being Tagged Forward.
I also didn't receive a PM from you.

My apologies. It had been 3 days so according to the tag it forward information in the opening post, I assumed at such a long period of time that tag forwards were acceptable. I’ll wait, as I have no book on your wishlist at this time (unless I missed something). The PM was mentioned for HI77 acceptance as i wanted to make sure they accepted for it to be a legitimate tag.

Thanks for pointing it out. :)

It had been 3 days so according to the tag it forward information in the opening post....

I’m not sure what tag it forward information you are referring to re a Tag It Forward allowed after 3 days of no Tag, but unless it’s stated specifically by the Tag-er, please assume they are expecting to receive something themselves.

I was referring to this statement.
“My own view of the Tag It Forward option is to avoid the game stalling.
Every attempt should be made to Tag the person up next to be Tagged, but if thats not possible by those paying attention to the game at the time, then it frees up the game by Tagging It Forward.”

There’s not really any criteria on what constitutes as “every attempt “. I guess that’s where my misstep took place. No harm meant.

If a person is happy to be Tagged Forward, they say so much in their post.
I did not state anything about Tagging Forward in my post when I Tagged perryfan, so clearly it’s not expected.
You’ve just copied and pasted a part of what I wrote on 4th Feb (ironically a post about frustration from players around improper Tagging Forward) to make justification.
Rather than copy and paste in a way that is glorified paraphrasing, maybe take note and include the paragraph before it.

I know I shouldn't butt in, but I see both sides and that you have both interpreted what is expected in different ways. I've taken it the same way jshaw said, but can totally understand acting on the very recent posts saying to keep this game moving. I might have done the same, Spatial.

I was trying to find a book on jshaw's wishlist. I went through my books a couple times, but didn't have any. But thought to myself that I'd keep an eye out for some of hers the next time I'm buying a bunch of books.

Again, my input is completely unsolicited. I know neither of you asked. But I think you both had good intentions -- and both interpreted messages differently. Happens in literature all the time... (she says, wiping sweat off her brow, because she probably should have kept quiet...)

No, you're fine.
You both are.
I hold my hand up and I acknowledge that it really sends me in a spin when people quote me with selective copy & paste to make their point.....sorry for being so snappy Spatial.

I can fully appreciate that I am hard to Tag because alot of genres I like are foreign fiction, but I play this game because the books on my Wishlist are ones I really genuinely want.
