The Art Forger
1 journaler for this copy...
Struggling artist Claire Roth makes ends meet by making museum-grade copies of masterpieces for a company that sells them to collectors who don't mind owning a mere copy. She is approached by an art dealer to replicate a Degas, but this assignment would be different from her previous work because the painting she is to copy is one that was stolen in an infamous heist of the Belle Gardner Museum and the plan is to cheat an illegal buyer with the fake and return the authentic painting to the museum. Getting involved in this deception is complicated by a past scandal where another artist took credit for her work.
This was a fun and engrossing read. From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankenweiler for grown-ups, the protagonist is someone who loves art, is strong and skilled, but is finding her way through the unpredictable thing called life. You've got to suspend disbelief a bit, but the one thing that really niggled for me: don't these people have any family?
