First published in Great Britain in 2006 by Orion. This paperback edition published in 2007 by Orion Books Ltd. London: Orion 2006/2007. Paperback, 454 pages.

This paperback was among the bagful of books Toss sent me after clearing out their shelves. Iʼve got the Finnish translation sitting in my own real shelf, and I'm not sure if Iʼll ever read it since it has too many pages to my taste. This one I think, will be released without me reading it first.

From the back cover:
I opened the door and was about to step into the emptiness when, in a voice hoarse with something like fear, she launched the words that stopped me in my tracks. ʻOnce upon a time there were twins ...ʼ
Reclusive author Vida Winter has created several ʻbiographiesʼ for herself each one different but now she wants to tell the truth. When she asks Margaret Lea to write her biography Margaret is reluctant – not least because of the family secrets she herself is guarding so painfully.
Margaretʼs research take her to Anglefield House and into Vidaʼs enigmatig part – and what she uncovers sheds a troubling light on her own life.
