This is an original, quirky novel, rather poignant in parts, and an entertaining read. The descriptions of how Rose "tastes" emotions are highly imaginative; she is a sympathetic and interesting heroine. I found the storyline involving her brother Joseph to be particularly fascinating and haunting, although some readers apparently hate it. Fair enough...but I found it a fabulous touch.
