Stella Gibbons parody of the British Rural Novel - Hardy, Mary Webb, with a bit of D H Lawrence chucked in, is amusing, but not laugh out loud comic. The biggest laughs are from the names of the cows and the invented country phrases.
Flora Poste descends, and condescends, on her country relatives, and determines to bring order to their lives. It all turns out very Jane Austenish, but we never find out what Great AuntAda saw in the woodshed.
