An interesting little book about fish. It is a James Beard Award Winner. Or so the front cover proudly claims.

Every chapter begins with a quote about cod. Whether it be from Don Quixote, Moby Dick, Ulysses or Captains Courageous, to name but a few.

It has recipes, too.

I gave this as a gift to my father (along with two other books, The Potato and Salt). Actually, I was so taken with this trio of books that I bought the same set for myself.

And, remember, to quote an old sea chanty:

CAPE COD KIDS DON'T USE NO SLEDS,
HAUL AWAY, HEAVE AWAY,
THEY SLIDE DOWN HILLS ON CODFISH HEADS.
