From the Publisher: "A remarkable work of fiction based on the true story of German industrialist Oskar Schindler, who, confronted with the horror of the extermination camps, gambled his life and fortune to rescue 1,300 Jews from the gas chambers.
"Working with the actual testimony of Schindler's Jews, Thomas Keneally artfully depicts the courage and shrewdness of an unlikely savior, a man who is a flawed mixture of hedonism and decency and who, in the presence of unutterable evil, transcends the limits of his own humanity."

Note: Even though, strictly speaking, this should be listed as "Literature & Fiction" because it is a novel, I have chosen "Other" because it is based in FACT & I don't want anyone years down the line (optimist, aren't I?) to come across this BC book & not realize the story is REAL.

Wow. A very kind soul sent this to me. Thanks Watchcat. I must admit that I have a sense of dread as I look at this book-only because I know what an emotional read it will be. A very important one, I suspect. Thanks for giving me this great opportinity to read a book I wouldnn't have chosen otherwise. Will journal when done.

I had already seen this movie, but I found the book to be equally stirring. I guess I still can't believe that this all really happened. I know it did- I just CAN"T fathom human beings hating other human beings to the point of exterminating their whole kind. Would I have been an Oskar Schindler? Would I have backed up my feelings with real action?

Will be releasing this later on today. Thanks again, Watchcat.
