This is an amazing book. Even though I had already seen the movie, the joy of discovering these characters and hearing their voices, being inside Hazel's brain, was a new pleasure. After reading this witty and subtle writer, I feel like such a bland writer, and want to try to be witty; maybe trying to be precise is the first step.

In recent years, when reading books or watching movies about first love, I realize that we always stay interested in those stories because they are some of the most intense experiences and years of our lives. So, even though I am far beyond 16, we are enough 16-year-olds inside that the questions of love, loss, life and death and our effect on those who love us are still daily questions for us. They still bring us to tears.

Hard to believe how poetic John Green makes Indianapolis. No dis against that city, but it's hard to imagine it as the modern-day American Verona, filled with the eternal story of star-crossed lovers. But it is.
