Journal Entry 1 by mrsbridgewater from Holybourne, Hampshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, December 30, 2003
I loved the writing style of this book, and the prose in the opening chapter made the purchase price worthwhile! As a novel the book felt a little disjointed, more a collection of linked short stories than a novel.
Released on Friday, January 16, 2004 at another bookcrosser in a controlled release, n/a Controlled Releases.

When I picked this up from Mrsbridgewater last night I wasn't sure whether I was going to hang onto it or take it to the London meet today to re-release on her behalf.
I read the first couple of pages last night when I got back, and it flows so beautifully that I think I'm going to hang onto it.
Will offer it up on the UKBC Yahoo group or take to the next meet when I'm done.

This book could almost be read as a selection of short stories, as the chapters don't naturally flow together.
This is the story of a young girl growing up in 1950s Germany and the tales of everyday human tragedy that she discovers all around her, told from the viewpoint of a perceptive child.
The language in this book is beautiful. It's what initially drew me to it and is easily it's best feature. It's a slim volume yet took me longer to read that I'd have expected, as I found myself re-reading parts to myself. A lovely book if you enjoy being read to out loud.
I shall offer this up at the next BookCrossing meeting I attend unless somone requests it. There are couple proposed over the next month which I intend to attend.

The style reminded me a lot of Ursula Hegi's book "Stones from the River" which tells the story of Trudi Montag. I read it years ago and now it felt like visiting a place you've been to before.
10.12. Will be sent to Bookcroser in the Netherlands tomorrow.

The book arrived today. Thank you very much, dschinny, for the Chrismas RABCK! (my parcel to you will be too late for Xmas, but now that I have your address I will mail it this afternoon.)
I liked 'Stones from the River', and I liked this book even more. I took it with me on a holiday. When I am home again I will send it to another Dutch bookcrosser who asked me if she could read it.
Thanx bookcrosser! I am looking forward to read it!
I picked this book up at the bookcrossing meeting in Gouda.
Love to read it and then give it to someone who is equally interested in reading this book.

At the late afternoon of the BookCrossing Meeting in Castricum today, I saw this book on one of the tables. I was looking for books for our OBCZ/ "Minibieb" (Little Free Library), and liked the cover + title of this book. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to read it myself, but I'm happy to have found it at the meeting. :)
