Faibu Sutā Monogatari = [Part] I /The Fivestar Stories
5 journalers for this copy...
Space opera with mecha. In Japanese, and a bit above my reading level; time to pass
it on.
it on.
Thanks so much for the book, and the lovely dinner - it was great to get to see you all! [I'd become interested in this series after reading about it on TV Tropes, and while I can't read the Japanese, I hope to enjoy the artwork!]
Later: Lots of fun to look through, especially the color section up front with the list of characters (and it's quite a list!). I found an English translation on line so I could match the text to the illustrations (you can see it here at mangareader.net; chapters 1-3 there, through page 57 of chapter three, match this book, give or take some of the bonus material).
The story itself mixes political scheming, an immortal (and androgynous) god-king and his fated beloved, a complex universe - oh, and giant mecha! And there's a lot of fun with people running around in disguise, with suitably dramatic reveals at appropriate moments. I found some very funny bits, and some ominous situations, but while I'm glad I got to explore this series, I don't know that I'll follow it any further - my head started spinning at the realization that the already-huge cast was going to get much larger as the story skipped around in time, and it sounds more than a bit angsty as well. Still, very intriguing series!
