Girl with a Pearl Earring

The book upon which the film about the artist Vermeer was based. Not a bad read but the film was better in my opinion. Hardback.

Loved the movie, only read the book in Finnish, so will put this one on top of my Mt. TBR. Once I'm done with the book, I know there's a Finnish crosser who has it on her wishlist!

I read the book in a day, since once you open it, you cannot help but breath in its pace. Griet has this weird enchanting aura that lures you into her world. Weirdly strong, righteous and determined girl in time when women had no worth on their own. Heart-wrenching as ever, absolutely Chevalier's best novel. Only The lady and the Unicorn comes close to this book.
This edition was wonderful with the pictures of the paintings and I spent (once again) a good deal of time just looking at and into the pictures, trying to dive into the studio and into the peoples minds and thoughts. Enchanting paintings, no matter how often you see them in pictures or in museums. Did you know that Het Meisje's background has originally been dark, deep shade of emerald green?

Wow, thank you for this wishlist book! I love that this edition comes with pictures of the paintings. :)
Girl with a Pearl Earring started off a little bit slow, but after a little while I realized I'm completely immersed in Griet's world. The book had such a strong atmosphere that it stayed with me even when I wasn't reading the book, and also for many days afterwards. I love this edition, it was wonderful to actually see the paintings that Griet so vividly describes.
Girl with a Pearl Earring is definitely one of Tracy Chevalier's best books. Remarkable Creatures was the book that made me a fan of her writing, but it's such a long time since I've read the book, that I can't say which one I like better. The Lady and the Unicorn was actually the first book I read by Tracy Chevalier, but I remember nothing of it, as it's been 16 years since I read it.
Thank you for sending me this book! It's so beautiful that I'm having a hard time parting with it. :)
