BACK COVER:
In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, Travis Boyette abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high school cheerleader .He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donte Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row. Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a different crime; Donte is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what's right and confess. But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they're about to execute an innocent man?

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Just mailed to faramir in Texas. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
This is one of those stories where you can't wait to get back to reading it, but you also don't want to read it because you don't want it to end. Characters were so vividly drawn that you feel you know them. It's been a long time since I felt so strongly about a story and became so involved in it. I wanted to run to the train station and offer my help, and I couldn't bear the thought of this tragedy occuring. My heart ached for this boy and his family, and the story brought me to tears. All the while I kept thinking, 'This couldn't possibly go on!" but then sadly realizing, "This probably goes on all the time.'
By far, one of Grisham's best.

Thank you for this book. Can't wait to read it. Looks really good.
I had a hard time reading this. I quit about 1/3 of the way through.
Being mailed to cbostler as part of a VBBox. I hope she enjoys it.
The Confession arrived in the mail today. Thank you for sending it, faramir10. I selected it from booklady331's VVbookbox because I haven't read a book from this genre before, and I'm trying to stretch my literary boundaries. It looks like it will be an interesting challenge.
I should be able to begin reading it at the end of next week.

There's a quote from a Washington Post review printed on the cover of The Confession.
"A grab-a-reader-by-the-shoulders suspense story." Truer words were never spoken!
I started reading two days ago, and rarely put the book down until I reached its conclusion on page 515. Author John Grisham has a new fan, and I've acquired an interest in fictional legal drama.
What I enjoyed about the book: Complex, believable characters; interwoven story lines;
well-paced action that keeps me turning pages; and a theme or message that lingers long after I finish the book.
What I would change about The Confession: The final paragraph made me sad and angry.
I wanted to cry out, "Augh!! Was NOTHING gained from the events of this story?"
I hope Booklady331 does another round in her ABC/VV bookbox. I'd like to offer this one to other readers.
