The Quilter's Apprentice: A Novel (Elm Creek Quilts Novels)
11 journalers for this copy...
This book is headed out on a Bookring to New Zealand, Australia, France, Switzerland, Algeria, Germany, Finland, UK, Canada and the USA. The first person on the Bookring is annenz from New Zealand.
I enjoyed getting acquainted with all the characters and location. I even got interested in the quilt patterns. I've never done any quilting myself but feel as if I've been looking over the shoulders of some very interesting quilters.

Arrived safely today, thank you:)
It's 9.25pm Saturday night, am free to start reading this now:)
If you are a quilter.... or someone that enjoys crafts.....you'll enjoy this book.
It's a very heartwarming story and definitely interesting from a quilting point of view.
I don't quilt myself but my mother does.

Hello and thanks for sending this book weeder and annenz.
Arrived safely in today's mail and I've started reading it already.
I really enjoyed this book, very easy to read.
As I do some sewing I also felt inspired to do more with all the craft talk and even looked up the elm creek quilts to see what the finished quilt would look like.
Thanks, have sent on to Icila in France

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On it's way to Icila in France, sorry I didn't post release note sooner.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
The book was waiting for me with my husband and a fellow bookring. I have some other TBR ahead in this summertime but I'm usually a fast reader.
I'm not a quilter. I have some friends who were crazy ones. I think I'll have a fresh look at the quilts now that I learnt so much about the patterns and the method.
Sending it to Penelopewanders in Switzerland.

This first book in this spiral has finally sauntered into this small village in the Alps. I'll try to get to it as soon as work allows, as the second has been enjoying the scenery for a bit already. Thanks so very much for making these available and for sending.

On the whole I enjoyed this very much, and wished I could better imagine the whole process - I was delighted to have the blocks displayed at the beginning and kept a bookmark on that page to flip back and look every time a new pattern was mentioned. I would have liked to see what the final result was - more drawings would have been nice. My only criticism was Sarah who irked me repeatedly... her character seems to improve as the book progresses, but for the longest time she seemed whiney and unpleasant. Maybe Mrs. Compson gives her a bit of her own medecine and they both get better! Here as a spiral, I look forward to reading the next which is already here.
I've written for the next address.

Now making its way down from the Alps and up to Germany. Icila wrote me that you can see the quilts on Chiaverini's webpage, so I had a fun time last night browsing through all the beautiful quilts, and looking forward to reading all the stories related to them.
Thanks so much for making these books available - sign me on for the whole spiral, please!

I am in the middle of another bookring so it shouldn't take me too long
starting this one.

Yes, I must say I liked that!
and I am curious how the story will go on...
I have to admit that I feel the same about Sarah as Penelopewanders does.. and I
liked Mrs Compson's humour and wit a lot.
Just a bit at a loss now - to whom will I send the book now?

The Quilter's Apprentice arrived at Kerava. The autumn has been quite rainy here. Now I heard that it is snowing a little Northwards from here.
Thank you for the book. I'll read it soon.

Oh, I read the book some days ago. These books about quilters are very nice, but they make my fingers itch. I would like to be a quilter, too. But I have too many hobbies already. It can't be helped. It is wonderful to read about quilting anyway and these stories are ever so lovely!
The book was posted to the next reader.
Happy reading!
This is my # 98 in

Arrived at work this week in my absence, my son (who is temping with me for a bit) brought it home. As a quilter, I'm looking forward to this! Thank you for the postcard Annelis xx Glad to have this over the Xmas period when I have a holiday and a quilt waiting to be wrapped round me whilst I read!
off to Canada
This book arrived in the mail today. Unfortunately there was no list to tell me who is next on the list for this bookring.
Thanks, Starfish, for sending this book on. I am looking forward to reading it. Hopefully I can finish it and pass it on before I go on vacation.

Loved this book...it was hard to put it down. I would probably have enjoyed it more if I had read it first before reading "Round Robin" as I already knew where the story was leading.
Thank you weeder for starting this bookring. I look forward to read more about the 'Elm Creek Quilters'.

Sending this book back to Weeder. Thanks.
This book has completed it journey around the world, beginning in the US and stopping in New Zealand, Australia, France, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, UK, and Canada. The book is in good condition and I'm sure it enjoyed seeing all the BC'ers and where they live. Thanky you everyone in the BookRing for getting it read quickly and on to the next person.
There were two people, Dubai Reader and heartthumper who requested the book after we had mailed it so I'll send it on to them in a few days. Anyone else interested PM me before JAN 31, 2013.

This book has "been around the world" on its own BookRing but is now being sent to DubaiReader and heartthumper. The Series doesn't necessarily need to be read in order but I think it's helpful to start with this number 1 in the series. It gives helpful background when you go on to read some of the others in the Series, Elm Creek Quilts Novels (20 in the Series.)
Thanks Weeder, the book is now with me and I will try and read it quickly - though I have a few in front already.
Thankyou so much for sending :)
Thankyou so much for sending :)
I don't know what happened there - this book seems to have jumped in front of the others that it should have patiently waited behind! Mrs Compson would be proud of it!
I have finished and got Heartthumper's address.
She's got a number of books ahead of this one too so I'll post it next week, when I come back from visiting tigers in India :) I'll write my review then too.
Update: 10/04/13: Book ready for posting, will g in the next few days.

This was a reasonable read but lacked depth, both in the characterisations and the descriptions of the house. Some of the quilting techniques were also hard to visualise and although I'm not a quilter, I do sew.
As expected, it was very American and at times I wished I had an American dictionary to hand.
Sarah McLure moves with her husband, Matt, to Waterford, Pennsylvania. He finally has a job, but she has had to give up her job for the move. She is desperately searching the ads and going to interviews for accounting jobs, though what she really wants is more of a PA role.
Matt is a landscape gardener and takes Sarah with him when he visits a new client at her estate known as Elm Creek Manor. The elderly owner, Sylvia Compton, is short tempered and rude, and Sarah takes an instant dislike to her. She is therefore surprised when Sylvia asks her to return to the Manor and offers her a job helping prepare the old house for sale. In addition, Sarah will receive quilting tuition from Sylvia, a master quilter.
I struggled with the transition of Sylvia from evil witch to lovable old lady. I knew when we first met her that she would soften, but didn't find the version we were first presented with at all believable.
I was pleased that there were illustrations of the quilt blocks in the book but would have liked to have also had a picture of the final quilt. The descriptions of the completion of the quilt made little sense to me so I went on the author's quilting site where I eventually found a picture of the finished article.
The ending was also pretty predictable. All in all, a sweet, easy read, which was what I was looking for at the time. It hasn't left a lasting impression on me, however.

It's here. Moving it to the top of Mt TBR.
I loved this story. I had read a couple of the later books and this brought them all together. Thanks for sharing.
Book #1 "The Quilters Apprentice" has come home to my mailbox again. There were eight members on the first BookRing from New Zealand, Australia, France, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, the UK, Canada, and back to me in the US. By the time it came home I had two more requests for it so it went flying off to the UAE and Hutchinson, KS in the US. So, now it's resting here with me. If you're interested in reading the book just PM me with your mailing address and I'll send it on it's way again!
