A very touching little piece on how a german jew tries to assimilate in London.
Book includes his list of how to become English.

quote
Never speak German on the upper decks on London buses
An Englishman buys his marmelade from Fortnum & Mason
and so on...

Very readable, indeed.

Picked up in Tapping The Admiral OBCZ.

Sadie and Jack Rosenblum arrive in England as refugees from Germany. Jack is desparate to become an Englishman and writes a list of English characteristics, of which he manages to meet them all except for membership of a golf club. His attempts to fit in and overcome prejudice are both funny and touching.

Found at the Chap Olympiad. I was one of the last people to leave after helping to clean up, and saw the book on a bench. First bookcrossing book ever encountered.

My favourite quote:
"My mother warned me that craziness ran in your family. I should have listened, but no, I was young and foolish and easily impressed by your red bicycle and your thick hair"

It's "Field of Dreams" with cider, golf and giant woolly-pigs. Not quite what I would usually read, but a sweet book about being foreign and assimilation, loss, memory and dreams.

Currently in Brixton, will be released in Central London in the next few days.
