This is the first book in the Dark Tower series and was first published in 1982. It's not the best book he ever wrote and if you're a fan and have read some of his later work it is obvious how much his writing has progressed. Nevertheless, it is the first book in the series and as such needs to be read before the other three. It does have it's fun parts - the best one (I think) being the section where you find out how Roland became a gunslinger. It's a great scene! So, I give this book a seven out of ten. If nothing else, it serves to whet the appetite for the next part of the story - The Drawing of the Three. The writing might not be great, but the content is just fine.
