A building inspector falls to his death from a scaffolding, and everybody believes it's an accident, except Brunetti, who investigates.

This was hard to get through. From the start, where Brunetti, being informed about illegal things about his own flat, figures out how to fix them illegally instead of biting the bullet and spending money, it only gets worse.

A man falls from a scaffolding, and only Brunetti, who knows he had a phobia about heights, doesn't believe it was an accident. Every time a person falls from a building, I (as layperson, not somebody who studied law at university or learned policing) suspect murder (somebody threw the person out), suicide or accident equally.
Falling from a scaffolding means the possibility that Safety laws about how build and secure the scaffolding might have been violated. Yet none of the other cops think like this.

And the worst: Brunetti has a witness. The witness is scared to talk. Brunetti goes to the suspect to rattle them and then goes home to his flat. Next morning he is surprised when he is told that the witness was killed in the meantime.
For all his high-brow reading of Tacitus, Brunetti has never heard of police protection. Considering how many witness he has caused to be killed by now, even taking the witness home to his family would be a better method.

The second parcel of four Brunetti novels arrived on Friday, and this was among them. I am indeed looking forward to getting through this series soon!

Never got any instructions on what to do with these books so they will be moving on, just not sure where or when. Maybe AAUW in State College, PA

I read the first few in the series and they sort of got to be repetitive. Started to dislike the main character which is always the kiss of death. Never read this one.
