Big Oprah book
I put off reading this book because it is intimidatingly thick and the subject matter seemed depressing. I was happy to find a quick moving epic tale of life in India in the late 70's. I don't know how based in fact it is, but the stories of the people living through such horrid times is inspiring, funny, and heartbreaking. I love the entertwining of lives and the completeness of relationships that was demonstrated in the book. Very worth the read. For my memory: 2 tailors, Dina, Beggermaster, haircollector, monkey man, Maneck Kolah, chess, and Family Planning.
Off in a bookbox
I picked this book out of a bookbox. The description interested me, although I generally find "Oprah books" (other than her classics picks) to be somewhat the same in tembre and tedious to read. I have hopes that this is different however. I will post my comments after reading the book.
