How do modern kids really view their world? Jeffrey Artenstein embarked upon a five-month journey across America to find an answer to that question. He covered 15,000 miles and interviewed hundreds of children from inner-cities and small towns to form a compelling portrait of modern youth.
They really do grow up fast nowadays!!! After reading this, I feel for parents out there who are also trying to cope. Some of the children were so frightened and you wish you could do something to help them. But then there were some that you just knew, hey this kid is going to make a difference.
They certainly are a lot smarter than people give them credit for, and they deal with so many different issues than we did. Mind you I grew up in a small town.
I got a kick out of the author. When the interviews were finished he decides:
"My children will be born in Charleston, where they will spend carefree hours walking into trees and playing in the sand. They will undergo primary and secondary schooling in Minneapolis, where they will play ice hockey and skate in the winter and spend the summers near the lake reading the classics. Eventually, they will attend Columbia University-or perhaps just live in New York City, and become adults. After that it's up to them"
