White Teeth

I can't believe that Zadie Smith was 24 years old or thereabouts when she published this book. Sheesh! What a debut. The novel is entertaining and "ambitious," as reviewers have said on more than one occassion. White Teeth tells the take of 2 unlikely families whose lives are inextricably intertwined. Smith's rendering of their tale is impressive. My opinion is she still has a masterpiece within her bones that will come out with a furor when she's ready.

I had to go to the dentist today and get my teeth cleaned. The dental hygenist, Colleen, was looking at my teeth and found a fistula on a back molar. I think that means I may have ground the hell out of my tooth and the root canal I had can't handle the pressure. So I may need to yank the tooth. They also informed me I need to get braces so I can realign my bite. Then I won't have so many tooth problems. I guess I'm doing better than the protaganist of this novel - she lost all of snaggles in a tumble.
At any rate, I figured a book of the title White Teeth needed to be set free in my dentist's office!
