The Tale of Halcyon Crane: A Novel

I enjoyed reading it a lot. It wasn't sophisticated writing and it contained editorial errors, but that didn't spoil it for me. I liked reading a good ghost story, satisfactory in every aspect. It wasn't grotesque but it was creepy, it wasn't horribly frightening but it kept an edge. It wasn't altogether too unlikely, just enough that it was a gothic fantasy. What happens is that a young woman discovers that her past is not what she thought, and when she goes to investigate she discovers all sorts of interesting, not quite of the world of the living, type of things.
Sent to Guinneth as a rabck. Hope you like it!
At first glance this book seemed to have all the ingredients for a great read: ghosts, witches, murder, an inheritance, a young woman's mysterious past...unfortunately, the characters were not developed at all and the "twists" were pat and predictable. The setting was quite wonderful, based on the very real Manitou Island. It sounds like a great place to visit!
I also always enjoy the fact that new authors are working in this genre - Mary Stewart and Barbara Michaels were early favorites of mine, along with countless gothic one hit wonders. :)
Anyway, I'll be mailing this to my sister. Thank you very much for sending it to me, Chana! It definitely kept me reading, even if ultimately I was somewhat disappointed.
