I watched the movie starring John Cusack first and read the book afterwards. Both of them are really great and Nick Hornby always fascinates me when writing about people. This book is about Rob, putting everything in his life on top 5 lists, including his girl friends and his music, driving his current girl friend Laura mad. Nick Hornby always observes and describes people carefully and you think "Oh, I also know people behaving like this".
