I liked this book much more than I expected to. I think that's largely because it delivered what I so badly wanted to know - what it's like to grow up being a military brat. I'm sure everyone's story is different, but this was a good one, and made me realize that my son and his future wife and kids will lead a life that I can only imagine. They'll know the acronyms, and the routines that only a military family can know. And I don't know why, but until now I never realized that I won't really be a part of that. If my son really does make a career out of the military, and gets married and has kids, they will know a life that I won't be privy to. I know, I know.. I'm being a little melodramatic.

Aside from my personal perspective, I liked this book because of the storyline. Once we finally get involved in what happened all those years ago at Yokota AFB, the story really takes off. Having Bernie get there via Bobby and go-go dancing was a little strange, but it was certainly a unique angle.

I liked, too, that the author really made us see how oblivious children are to what is going on in their parents' lives. Ain't that the truth!!
