After reading:
An extraordinary account of a period of the young Orwell's life, when he worked as a dishwasher in Paris, was desperate to get any kind of job (mostly in vain) and had to live in public shelters and filthy, cheap places. In this book he describes how he often went hungry for days, pawning his overcoat to get at least some bread... An intelligent analysis about the social situation of the poor in the 1930s finishes of this non-fiction book.

I've got this book at the BC meeting at the Irish pub in Lisbon, organized for the visit of mojitopt. That was a very nice moment. Will read it ASAP.
I received this book in Lisbon, and took it with me to Paris when I moved two months ago, that was a nice experience to read it in the subway, a few pages every day on my way to work.
I found it very interesting. Although it was written in the 30ies, I found it still very actual. Orwell tells us about his "tramp" life in the streets in Paris and then London, talking about his fellow companions and the different aspects of such a precarious life, plus some reflections on the social political aspects.
I was very impressed and learned a lot about it. Now, when I see those tramps, homeless people lying in the streets, begging or drinking in the subway in Paris, I don't see with the same eyes anymore.
I might go to London in a near future, so I think I'll wait for this trip to take the book and release it there. It might be interesting for a Londoner too.
