Everybody into the Pool: True Tales

Picked this up at a local thrift store for $1. Looks to be very humorous.
From Booklist
Lisick, a natural storyteller, plunges not only into the pool but also into details, some undeniably gory, about her transformation from ultratanned homecoming queen (high-school freshman with a hunky senior as her date) in a puffy-sleeved, plaid dress of royal blue, lime green, canary yellow, bright pink, and hues of purple into a young woman living illegally in a warehouse as raw sewage falls from broken pipes and the upstairs occupants. Well, that's a slide into drug-culture squalor for you. That warning posted, let it be said that Lisick employs a whacked-out, loopy humor that many will find charmingly off-the-wall as she recounts such larks as traveling as the sole straight girl with a lesbian punk band and spending an evening at a Catholic charity fund-raiser selling raffle tickets (and filching some of the cash) to fund an abortion her vacationing boyfriend can't. Readers will also learn of Lisick's open-minded, not entirely successful quest for bisexuality in the early 1990s and her stint as a giant banana.
Edit 5/29/09: Finished reading this somewhat amusing book about the reminicences of the author's life growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970s and into her adult life in the 1990s. Some of this was laugh-out-loud funny including the chapter when she was the homecoming queen in the outrageous dress with hues of various colors and her subsequent date with the handsome and believed-to-be reserved senior. Some of the other parts of the book were not as funny but overall this was an enjoyable read. This reminded me of similar humorous books about growing up that I enjoyed including The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson, A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel, and probably my favorite: In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd, the basis for the wonderful movie, A Christmas Story.

I received this book today. I have one bookring in front of it and then I'll read this one. It looks like it is going to be hilarious! I love the stamps on the envelope. I wish we had Disney characters on our stamps! :)

What a funny book! A light and easy summer read. I personally laughed the loudest during the Catholic Nun Chapter. I found it very interesting that she was at Lollapalooza 1994 as I was there as well, but unfortunately didn't make it to the Spoken Word tent. I will definitely keep an eye out for her other books in the future.

This was an easy read. A light insight into a life of another.
