From the blurb:
"Troubled by an inability to find any meaning in his life, the -25-year-old first-person narrator quits his MA course at university in a bid to discover a raison d'être. He recounts a series of annecdotes, which culminate in a trip to stay with his brother in New York. The cumulative impact is htat of a highly compelling novel, a strange mixture of wisdom and naïvety.
He writes lists. He becomes obsessed by time and whether it actually matters. He faxes his meterologist friend. He befriends a small boy who lives next door. He yearns to get to the bottom of life and how best to live it."
It's quite a while since I read this book - and , of course, I read the Norwegian translation. But I do like Loe's writing, his simple language and this meditation on existence.

Received from my Birthday RABCK buddy -thanks very much! I look forward to reading it very soon ...
I thought this was one of the funniest books I have read in a while. It reminded me of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon, but I enjoyed this so much more. I read it on the train these last two days; there was a gentleman watching me in amusement this morning, as I tried not to laugh aloud and had to contend with just grinning! I just loved the lists, particularly those from New York. I also liked the unexpected references to time and how it is supposedly different at the top of the Empire State building! I was a little disappointed with the ending though, but still, the story was thought-provoking and hilarious.
I will be lending this to some friends now, and then will decide what to do with it. Thanks very much for sending this to me, Haugtussa!
