The Terror: A Novel

As a concept, men isolated on a boat in the arctic sounds pretty awful, and the book does a great job of putting you there. Unfortunately, I actually had to look up a map of the boat's layout after my dad and I could not determine how it was laid out. I like Dan Simmons, and most of the book is excellent, gripping, disturbing and intense. Unfortunately, it petered out a bit at the end. I felt like it was one of those books that painted itself into a corner as far as the ending went. Definitely worth reading, just not quite what I had hoped for.
