I'm taking a pass on this book. What is it with me and male authors? It is rare that a male author is able to engage me in a book. This book did not engage me. I gave it...okay, I only gave it twenty pages...but, gosh golly, there are too many other books sitting there, waiting for me! I can always find a ring with this book later if I find it more appealing later on.

I read some of the Amazon reviews of this book. One reviewer said that this book is not for everyone; to enjoy this book, he said, a reader has to think! Well, maybe that was what was wrong with me this week...I didn't want to think while I read! Anyway, I hope others read this, rave over it, and entice me into picking it up again!

I made a big mistake with this book .... I read the first half and then put it down for a few weeks, which quickly turned into a few months. Of course, when I went back to it, I had to start all over again. Despite the fact that it took me so long to get through it, I found it worth the effort overall. Much of the book is hilarious and inventive, and I laughed a lot. Sometimes, however, the author's conceits seem overdone, and the results were clunky and awkward at times. I don't think it quite lives up to the massive hype, but it is an interesting and impressive debut.

Passing this on to BXer editorgrrl to fulfill a wish as part of this relay.
