Kilvert's Diary

The Reverend Francis Kilvert was a Victorian country clergyman who, from 1870 to 1879 kept a faithful record of day to day life in Wiltshire and on the Welsh border.
As well as being an historical record, Kilvert's diary stands on its own as a work of literature - lively, perceptive, often amusing and always entertaining. The place and the people come vividly to life, and Reverend Kilvert emerges as a delightfully 'human' clergyman, especially for a man of the cloth in 19th century Britain.
This selection of writings from Kilvert's Diary was edited and introduced by Willam Plomer C.B.E, D.Litt, F.R.S.L.
