Calvin and Hobbes
2 journalers for this copy...
I have virtually all of the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip books. I would loan them out in college and share the joy, Bookcrossing even then. They have brought me many laughs and many thoughts. From the transmogrifier, the evil snowmen, Rosalyn the babysitter, Susie, Mom, Dad, Hobbes, and Calvin; I love them all.
I just thumbed through and saw the strip where Calvin climbs out of bed, out the window and uses a pay phone to call his parents and ask them if they know where he is. I think it is a priceless childhood moment.
If you have never read a Calvin and Hobbes strip and you pass this book in the bookstore, just have a look at the Sunday strip on page 62.
I almost cry when I see people unlawfully use Calvin's image. Bill Watterson put up a large fight to keep the rights over Calvin and Hobbes and I am glad he did.
Thank you, Bill Watterson.

I ended up with a second copy, so I removed this listing from my [PC] personal collection and will release it at the Meetup. I've got to share it with others who love books. :)
Don't worry, I still have one for myself! I just won't list it on Bookcrossing since this one is listed and it states my views on the book quite simply.
Fly, you funny book, fly!

YAY!! Calvin and Hobbes holds a certain special place in my heart, though, as in many things, I came late to the party. When Watterson was actively drawing strips for C+H I was not a fan and would skip over his work in favor of over strips (the names of which I cannot even remember, to show what sort of impression they left on me in the end). It was not until a couple years ago when a new friend of mine loaned me a couple of his C+H books, saying "In order to understand me as a person you must be familiar with these." And he was right. A whole life philosophy is encapsulated in the world of Calvin and Hobbes. At first I thought I could not relate since I was never a little boy, but the strips are really about grander things like life, and childhood, and family, and friendship. One does not need to have enjoyed a splendid American boyhood to smile gleefully at Calvin's antics. And really, it's all about the things that Hobbes says anyway. He's the smartest stuffed tiger I have ever come across.
