Although my friends raved about this book, I found it hard to read. The book speaks in tongues and although it's setting is New Jersey it has the heavy overtones of Trujillo's brutal reign over the Dominican Republic. Contrasted with the harsh history is an ordinary, extraordinary love story. A poetical read.
