It's been a while since I've read this novel, but anything by Amy Tan leaves a good impression with me. The book combines magic, a romance and an adventure in the context of both modern San Francisco and rural China. Amy Tan does a terrific job of exploring the cultural differences between the ancient, traditional Chinese ways and the modern western Chinese-American lives. The story may be a little difficult to follow initially, due to the many yin (undead) people that are introduced, but stick with it, as you will be rewarded for your patience!

I'm registering Copy 1, which I released back in January, with its own BCID on the kind advice of one of the recipients (thanks Mady!).

Released on Friday, January 03, 2003 at Tree's Organic Coffee House on Granville Street in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada.

Left the book at approximately 11:30 am, hidden behind Hill's Brothers (?) aluminum coffee container holding dried flowers, along the window where the bar seating is. This is Copy 1 of the same novel (I had two copies).

On Ko Lanta, an island in south Thailand I met a canadian girl who gave me this book.
We started talking, can't remeber why but we got along straight away. She told me about this book and that she hadn't found anyone she wanted to give it to.
But now, she wanted me to have it!
Had never heared of the author so I didn't know what to expect. What I thoght of the book changed alot while reding it. At first..hmm, pretty slow and in the middle too. But after finishing it my thoughts change, it's a beautiful book about faith and pure love, the last chapters makes the book worth reading all over again!!

I'm not sure what to do with the book. Right now it's on the bookshelf in my sisters home, but I'm not sure she is the one I want to have it. I want to give it to someone I know will keep it alive!! I think i will giveit to a friend!!

From April 2nd - I've received this book (copy 1) yesterday on the mail from Charlotta :)) Thanks a lot!! I was so glad to see it waiting for me when I arrived home late at night! I'm really anxious to read this one. When I do it, I'll make another journal entry and will surely make this book travel more. And Charlotta, hope you'll get soon the book I've also sent you last week and that you enjoy it! Thanks again! And thx to treegrrl for putting this book on the road :)

From June 8th - This was my first Amy Tan's and I've really really enjoyed reading it. It was great to find another author that puts so many details into her stories that make them seem so real!! Recommended! I will definitely now be looking for other Amy Tan's books.

When you trust someone's literary taste and that person recommends you a book... never say no =]

I enjoyed this book ever so much =] Kwan was an amazing character, lovable from the first moment and it seemed to me a mix between The Matrix's Oracle and Mr. Miyaghi from Karate Kid... and maybe some Yoda too.
Libby-ah.. well she deserved some slaps upside the head sometimes.
Wonderful story telling.

I really loved this book! It emmanates a sense of calm and magic! Kwan is a fascinating character, she may seem a little whacky sometimes, though you'll realise in the end she's very wise. It's a beautiful book and I thank Mady for allowing me to read it. :)

This was my first Amy Tan book and I loved it. Luckily I have two more Tan's books waiting to be read at home :-)
I enjoyed this book so much! Kwan was definitively my favourite character. And I agree with Xana, Libby did deserve some slaps, and not just once in a while.
