"Two years after my mother died, my father fell in love with a
glamorous blonde Ukranian divorcee. He was eighty-four and she was
thirty-six. She exploded into our lives like a fluffy pink grenade,
churning up the murky water, bringing to the surface sludge of sloughed-off
memories, giving the family ghosts a kick up the backside."

Very funny, and touching.

I plan to make this a ring.

This book was funny. Different from the books I've been reading. I enjoyed it.
It 'll go to Qantaqa tomorrow.

Arrived today, thanks a lot for sending (and for offering this book as a ring :) )! It'll probably take a while before I manage to read this but seeing as I'm last on the list, I hope you don't mind too much?

Journal Entry 6 by Qantaqa from Dachau, Bayern Germany on Tuesday, February 17, 2009
I finished this book quite a while ago (sometime in December, I think) and since then, I've tried to contact Fiercy, the owner, several times so the book can travel back home. Unfortunately, I haven't received an answer so far. So if you read this, Fiercy, please let me know your address!
I'm afraid this book just wasn't my cup of tea at all. The first 20 or so pages were quite promising - but I just didn't like the rest of the book. What is supposed to be funny about a poor old man being beaten and neglected by his so-called wife? Since I know many people absolutely love this book, I'm wondering if maybe I missed something?
Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the ring!

Journal Entry 7 by Qantaqa from Dachau, Bayern Germany on Monday, June 15, 2009
Seeing how I haven't been able to contact this book's owner, Fiercy, in several months, I asked for new bookring participants in the forum, so the book won't have to suffer a life on my bookshelf :):

Eben eingetroffen, herzlichen Dank!

I only just remembered: I owe a JE.
Wellllll. The book was not as hilarious and funny as advertised. In some ways it shocked me, but yes, I also laughed at various points. The book is neither a comedy nor a family story - it is something in between and thus disappionts both anticipations. I sort of... liked it... a bit...
