It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

Preface
In writing this little book, I have endeavoured to bear in mind that in all probability some of my readers may have but a limited acquaintance with the art of organ building, whilst others will perhaps be venturing upon entirely new ground without any such knowledge at all. I have therefore tried to explain matters in as simple a manner as possible, trusting that those who have already mastered the intricacies of this fascinating subject will forgive me if things which appear to them of little importance are described at some length.

The book in no way pretends or is intended to be an exhaustive treatise on organ construction, and aims only to give such direction as is necessary for the building of a small instrument suitable for the average residence...

Introduction
There is no doubt that to a very large majority of people, the pipe organ has a more subtle attraction and charm than any other musical instrument, and it is a pity that it is not more frequently found in the homes of musical people. Harmoniums and reed organs there are in thousands, but reeds can never be made to produce that satisfying quality associated with true organ tone, whereas even the smallest pipe organ, if well and truly constructed, with a few quiet stops, is a never ending source of pleasure.

Contrary to some generally accepted objections, a pipe organ does not necessarily require a very great floor space or a room of exceptional size in which to stand. It is possible to build a perfectly satisfactory two manual instrument occupying in space not more than 6ft. by 3ft. 6in. by about 9ft. in height. The action and general constructional details in an organ of this size are really quite simple, and there is nothing to prevent any amateur with a knowledge of the use of wood-working tools from turning out a splendid little instrument from start to finish...
