Easter Island
3 journalers for this copy...
Purchased this book a while ago and finally am getting around to reading it.
Finished the book today after a long period of time (some personal issues came up so it took me much longer than anticipated to finish the book.)
There were two parallel story lines. One of an academic family in the early part of the 20th century who travel to Easter Island for anthropological research. The other thread followed a female botanist in the 1970s who travels to Easter Island to recover after the death of her husband and a stall to her career.
I really enjoyed reading about the history- both of the people and the ecology-of the island. The author must have done a ton of research to gain such an understanding of a place most of us will never have the opportunity to visit.
I would definitely recommend to someone who enjoys reading about history and science in fictionalized form.

Adding to batty14's Current Fiction Bookbox.
Chosen from the box today.
I, too, really enjoyed this book. It was slow going...I think because there was so much information that was new to me and it was so well-written that I couldn't just go from page to page mindlessly. I am amazed by either the amount of intelligence this author has or the amount of research she did when creating this story. It really is amazing. I tried to find something else by her but haven't found anything yet. I would be interested in reading more from her though.
I will be setting this aside to release soon.
