Passed on to me by my Mum, who really enjoyed it.

Journal Entry 2 by dododumpling from St. Neots, Cambridgeshire United Kingdom on Saturday, August 30, 2008
I enjoyed this portrayal of poverty-stricken northern life in the early twentieth century much more than I expected to and will look out for the sequel.

Caught this book on the OBCZ shelf at the back of the Cambridge Caffe Nero on Kings Parade [11:10hrs 03/09/2008]. Look forward to reading it. I lived and worked in Manchester and the surrounding area from 1992 - 1997 and remember it fondly. Never know, might end up back there in the future!

I really enjoyed this as an easy read. I didn't even skim to the end to see what happened. Nicely compartmentalised into the story-telling of the author's childhood and no more.
