This one's for me first!!!!! I loved The Pillars of the Earth by this same author and I very much look forward to this one.

Welcome to BookCrossing! It's a site for catching and releasing books and spreading the good karma of reading! Please make a journal entry when you FIND this book and let previous readers know how you came upon it. You may remain anonymous on this site if you like but it's very safe and spam free. We leave books around for others to stumble upon...they read, and then re-release in a public place for someone else to enjoy. Of course you're welcome to keep the book if you prefer but it's more fun to watch them travel and to hear from them once in a while. I hope you enjoy the book but I especially hope you enjoy BookCrossing.

This one was as good as The Pillars of the Earth but just a touch too long. I can't believe that I like the Priors, the ale, the crusty bread, the serfs, and Ralph's raping and pillaging! Follett can certainly weave a tale! I do really enjoy this guys writing and the historical fiction genre has turned out to be one of my faves! I will send this one along to my book club friends to read as we'll be discussing it in April at the 2nd Annual Poobahs/RAGGAEs Spring Fling! This book was a whopping 1013 pages!

Carolyn has it as of 3/2009

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Carolyn has reluctantly agreed to read this one in prep for next month's rendezvous. I had no idea she thought it "too vulgar and rough". She made no mention of her hesitancy at the time of the choice by Anne. We actually talked about choosing this one for months! She had ample opportunity to voice her thoughts. I hope it's not too much for her! William was rough to handle in TPOTE and now Ralph is much the same Cad in this one! They are hideous characters but sooooooooo much fun to hate and even more fun to talk about! Times were rough back then. Thanks to Follett for such a well told tale. (I hope Carolyn survives it ;-)

Cheers,
Poobah1 :^)

Journal Entry 4 by Poobah1 from Lake Elmo, Minnesota USA on Thursday, July 30, 2009
OMG! I can't believe I forgot to journal on this one after our 2009 Spring Fling in northern Minnesota. Carolyn brought it back in perfect shape and there this beauty will stay! We had an absolute riot up at the cabin. All 8 members of the RAGGAE's showed and screaming fun was had by all [especially Anne]!

The book was a resounding success with mostly high number ratings. Janelle and Carolyn didn't love it, Deb didn't finish saying, "it was just like reading Pillars again." [I agree completely, but I loved reading Pillars sooooo]
Kathy didn't finish but she liked what she had read....and so on.

I love this book and will keep it in my permanent collection.
